Tom Welsh ➤ Club Director

Tom is in his first year as Club Director for Serve City. Tom has coached for 15 years at every level there is. He started his coaching career at the middle school level and continued it all the way through the collegiate level. He most recently spent the last two years at Morton College where he lead the Panthers to the most wins by a first year head coach in program history and more conference wins in his first year than the previous three years combined. Tom’s biggest love comes in helping athletes achieve their dreams and continuing to help guide them through the art of volleyball. Click here to contact Tom.

Tim Maruyama ➤ Owner/President

Tim is the owner and president of Serve City Volleyball. Tim founded Serve City in 2013 in Chicago before bringing Serve City to the western suburbs in 2015 and is passionate about seeing the growth of the sport and the club. Since then he has coached at every level from elementary school and high school to NCAA Division I Volleyball. He is also the owner and president of 630 Volleyball, our boys club program in Darien, and Chicago Sand Volleyball, our beach program in Lisle. Click here to contact Tim.

 
 

Serve City Coaches

Carissa Eich

Coach Carissa is an SC alumnus, having played for four years with our high school teams as an outside hitter and opposite hitter prior to joining the coaching ranks. Carissa is excited to pour her love for the game and knowledge of volleyball skills and tactics into her 13 Red athletes! Carissa will coach 13 Red again this season after she plays this fall with College of DuPage’s women’s team.

Jessica Smith

Coach Jessica is another SC alum after playing for two years as a libero for 17 Blue and 18 Blue. After earning all-Upstate Eight Conference honors at West Chicago High School, she played for one year at Harper College and now is in her third year playing in the back row at Judson University in Elgin. Jessica is in her fourth season as an SC coach, having coached 14 Blue and 13 Blue to winning seasons the last two years and 14 Red in 2018-19, including leading 14 Blue to five victories at the 2021 Asics Jr. Nationals. Jessica will coach 14 Blue this season.

Gabriela Salamando

Coach Gabriela is in her second year as an SC coach after honing her skills and love for the game for seven years at the middle school and high school levels, including four years of club volleyball as a setter and outside hitter. Gabriela’s versatility as a former setter and outside hitter enables her to coach a variety of positions with excellence on 14 Red. Gabriela will coach 13 Blue this season.

Jason Gentile

Coach Jason loves coaching AND playing volleyball. He is in his third season with SC after coaching 14 Blue to a winning season in 2019-2020 and leading 15 Blue to the 2021 Asics Jr. National Tournament at Navy Pier in June. He’s also coached high school JV boys volleyball at Bolingbrook High School, middle school boys volleyball and high school freshman girls squads at Hinsdale South and Joliet West. Whenever he can find the time, Jason also plays in indoor sand volleyball leagues at Downers Grove Sand Club whenever he can. Jason will coach 16 Blue this season.

Catherine White

Coach Catherine boasts a rich club and school playing experience and volleyball family tree. Her mom was a legendary coach at DeKalb and was inducted into the Illinois Volleyball Coaches Hall of Fame. Catherine played eight years of school and club volleyball before joining Serve City as 13 Red coach in 2019-2020. Last season she coached 17 Blue, 16 Blue and 14 White for our club, leading 17 Blue to the 2021 Asics Jr. National Tournament at Navy Pier. Catherine will bring her depth of volleyball knowledge to coach 18 Blue this season.

Lauren Holub

Coach Lauren has a tremendous enthusiasm for volleyball and for middle school athletes. Lauren played school and club volleyball from sixth grade through her senior year of high school, when she started at libero for Lisle Community High School in the western suburbs. Lauren loves teaching middle school girls the techniques and fundamentals needed to fully enjoy the sport and can’t wait to work with our 14U winter regional team this season.

Brittany Schutter

Coach Brittany brings a great passion for and knowledge of the game and extensive playing experience and coaching experience to Serve City. Brittany played volleyball for 12 years at the school and club levels, culminating in four years of volleyball with the top women’s club team at Northern Illinois University, where she served in the unique role as the team’s player-coach. Besides coaching with SC, Brittany is also the new head coach of the varsity girls team at Plano High School!
